All Proficiency Systems courses and workshops, are taught by highly energetic and experienced instructors and emphasize a hands-on learning-by-doing approach and immediate application.  Participants complete their training energized, engaged, and ready to begin translating their new skills and knowledge into real action leading to needed improvement and results within your organization.

Problem Solving and Process Improvement Courses

Problem Solving Fundamentals

  • Learn the foundational concepts and tools common to all process improvement projects, including: Proper project definition, capturing the voice of the customer, process mapping, measurement and data collection, basic root cause identification, proactively managing change, and making improvements last
  • Duration: 2 Days
  • Who Should Attend: Anyone who will be leading process improvement efforts and their team members

Root Cause and Corrective Action Leadership

  • Teaches a structured facilitated process to identify the root causes of a problem and to develop and implement corrective actions to address the root causes and effectively prevent future negative events. Addresses single occurrence problems (e.g. accidents) and repeating problems (e.g. process defects) as well as those issues resulting from basic linear cause-and-effect relationships and more complex situations such as latent failure and systemic failures
  • Duration: 2.5 Days
  • Who Should Attend: Anyone tasked with leading Root Cause investigations within their organization
  • Recommended Prerequisite: Problem Solving Fundamentals

Data Analysis for Improvement

  • When work output varies significantly, resulting in poor performance and defects, a data analysis based approach is typically required to uncover and address the causes of the variation (a traditional Six Sigma approach). This course teaches participants how to gain a clear data based understanding of baseline performance (Data Collection Planning, Measurement Systems Analysis and Gage R&R, Control Charts, Process Capability Analysis) and to utilize a standard six-step process to efficiently analyze the association of potential causes to output variation (Hypothesis Tests for Means and Variation, Regression Analysis, Nonparametric Methods, Hypothesis Tests for Proportions and Counts).
  • Duration: 5 Days Total (Two – 2.5 Day Parts)
  • Who Should Attend: Those leading variation reduction initiatives as well as engineers and scientists who regularly use data to make decisions
  • Recommended Prerequisite: Problem Solving Fundamentals

Kaizen Workshop Leader

  • When a process is inefficient, producing too little too slow, a Lean tool based Kaizen Workshop format is often the best way to rapidly generate and implement needed improvements. This course teaches participants how and when to apply key Lean tools and concepts (Value Stream Mapping, Constraint Identification, Process Balancing, Pull Systems, Work-Cell Layout, Changeover Reduction, 5S, Mistake Proofing, etc.) to improve process efficiency, as well as how to do so in a facilitated Kaizen Workshop format
  • Duration: 4.5 Days Total
  • Who Should Attend: Those leading projects to improve process efficiencies
  • Recommended Prerequisite: Problem Solving Fundamentals

Green Belt and Black Belt Certification

Proficiency Systems also offers Green Belt and Black Belt Certification.  Please contact us to learn more about the additional requirements needed to achieve Certification requirements, but the training portion of Certification can be met by successfully completing the following combination of courses:

Green Belt: Problem Solving Fundamentals and ONE of the following: Root Cause and Corrective Action Leadership, Data Analysis for Improvement, OR Kaizen Workshop Leader

Black Belt: Problem Solving Fundamentals and ALL of the following: Root Cause and Corrective Action Leadership, Data Analysis for Improvement, Kaizen Workshop Leader, AND Group Facilitator

Sponsor Training

  • Provides Project Sponsors with a clear understanding of their role in the improvement process and how to effectively support and hold teams accountable for delivering needed results
  • Duration: 2 Days (With comprehensive hands-on Simulation), 1 Day (Without Simulation)
  • Who Should Attend: Those leaders with improvement efforts occurring within their areas of accountability

Champion Training

  • Teaches participants how to lead the effort to identify, select, and manage the organization’s portfolio of improvement projects
  • Duration: 2 Days (With comprehensive hands-on Simulation), 1 Day (Without Simulation)
  • Who Should Attend: Those leaders tasked with managing improvement project portfolios

Awareness Training

  • Participants are provided an overview of the improvement process and key tools as part of a hands-on comprehensive simulation in which they have the opportunity to immediately apply their new learnings to improve the performance of a complex process by more than 10X
  • Duration: 1 Day
  • Who Should Attend: Anyone touched by your organization’s Continuous Improvement activities

SOFT SKILLS COURSES

Group Facilitator

  • This course teaches participants how to skillfully facilitate groups to agree upon and own practical, workable solutions to issues that get implemented. Participants learn how to guide the group through the various stages of the facilitation process using key facilitation concepts (energizing the group, managing dysfunction, achieving consensus, etc.)
  • Duration: 4 Days Total
  • Who Should Attend: Those who facilitate group sessions and workshops or extended meetings

DAILY IMPROVEMENT WORKSHOPS

Problem Solving Basics Series

This series of four workshops equips process performers with the basic skills to effectively identify and solve problems within their local work area utilizing the PDCA (or similar) method.

  1. Identify Problems

  • Teaches process performers how to identify problems within their own work areas by mapping the process, observing performance, and collecting data
  • Duration: 2 Hours
  1. Problem Selection

  • Teaches process performers how to develop effective problem statements and to select which problems to focus their attention on
  • Duration: 2 Hours
  • Prerequisite: Identify Problems
  1. Problem Solving METHODS & TOOLS

  • Teaches process performers the basics of identifying the deep causes of a well-defined problem; designing, testing, and implementing solutions; and sustaining the improvements
  • Duration: 2 Hours
  • Prerequisite: Problem Selection
  1. Problem Solving FACILITATION

  • Teaches process performers the basics of effectively Facilitating a local team through the various group activities within a typical Problem Solving effort
  • Duration: 2 Hours
  • Prerequisite: Problem Solving METHODS & TOOLS
